ABOUT ME

About Me

Liam

My name is Liam Meagher. I'm an engineer with an Undergraduate Degree in Computer Science & Engineering from UCLA currently pursuing a Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering at USC. I have a background in Combat Robotics and Additive Manufacturing and am always learning new skills through passion projects. I grew up in Scouts BSA and attribute much of my leadership and character development to the organization.

My story

Here's my unabridged story:

I grew up in Phoenix, Arizona and went to a small K-12 charter school focused on Classical Education. I learned Latin and Greek, and I found a deep love of literature and mythology that continues to this day. I spent my free time with my friends in Cub Scouts and later Scouts BSA, where I developed a passion for teaching and the outdoors. I achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in Scouts BSA on May 16th, 2019.

I spent my summers from 2017 to 2023 volunteering at Camp Emerald Bay, a Scout camp on Catalina Island, as a counselor and instructor. This experience taught me self-discipline and leadership skills, and I returned to the camp as the director of my previous program once I turned 18.

In the fall of 2021, I moved to Los Angeles to attend UCLA as a Computer Science & Engineering major. During my time at UCLA, I was involved in various extracurriculars, including the Flagship Combat Robotics team, where I served as the Chassis Lead Engineer. I taught a team of young engineers how to design and build combat robots from the ground up. Through the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), I worked as the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Director to reduce barriers to entry in engineering. In June 2025, I graduated from UCLA with a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science & Engineering.

However, in my final years at UCLA, I discovered two new passions: Mechanical Engineering and Teaching. Seeing projects come to life through hands-on work captured my attention, and instructing others became deeply fulfilling.

I took a gap year to apply to graduate school while working as an Engineering Instructor at Heart of Los Angeles (HOLA), a non-profit that provides STEM education to underserved youth in Downtown LA. I taught middle and high school students various engineering concepts and mentored them on their projects. Students learned about everyday science, the scientific method, and the history and engineering of rockets.

In January 2026, I received an offer of admission to the Master's program in Mechanical Engineering at USC, which I accepted. I am excited to continue my education and explore new opportunities in the field that combines my engineering interest with the passion of working with my hands.
